Behind the brand

How it all started 

Hi, hola! Alicia is my name and I am the one behind all this.

In 2020, I bought my first sewing machine and taught myself how to use it... Through this, I discovered a whole new world of creativity, mindfulness, colours, textures, patterns—and then craft markets, digital marketing, social media, viral posts, sales... Despite all the ups and downs, I am proud to say that Bloom Handmade Designs is my crafty corner and passion project.

I am originally from Zamora (Spain), but I always knew there was more out there for me. After three years living in England and doing a bit of travelling and volunteering, I finally found my place when I moved to Cork (Ireland) in 2017 to start my PhD in microplastic pollution. Now, I call Kinsale my home.

I am an Environmental Scientist with a passion for sustainability and nature conservation. My career path so far has taken me across continents and cool locations—from turtle conservation camps, laboratories, research vessels, and UN and European Commission meetings... to the good ol' office desk.

I am a firm believer that you should be the change you wish to see in the world, and I try to follow this in everything I do. You can read more about this in the Sustainability section.
