Sustainability
Bloom Handmade Designs is my passion project, and I’m always looking for ways to do better for the planet while bringing a little joy through handmade creations. I’m committed to making mindful choices that reduce waste and celebrate creativity with care for the planet.
Handmade with Love:
Every single item is designed and handmade by me, with care and attention to detail. I believe in quality over quantity, creating thoughtful and unique pieces that are built to last.
Fabrics:
I primarily work with natural fabrics like cotton and linen, they’re high quality, feel lovely, and they don’t shed plastic microfibres or pollute the environment like synthetic materials. I also love giving pre-loved fabrics a second life by upcycling them, these unique pieces are clearly marked, so you know exactly what you’re getting.
Packaging:
All orders are packed using plastic-free* and recyclable materials. I aim to keep packaging minimal, beautiful, and kind to the environment.
* I still use some lil' 'thank you' stickers that I bought in large quantities a while back. These have a plastic coating, and while they’re not ideal, I believe it's more sustainable to use them up rather than discard them and replace them.
Sustainability disclaimer:
As a scientist with a background in pollution and greenwashing research, I’m always thinking about the impact materials and processes have on our planet. Nothing is 100% sustainable, everything has a carbon footprint, and every product has a life cycle and environmental impacts. But I promise to always do my best to make thoughtful choices and keep sustainability at the core of what I do.
Alongside my background in environmental science (you can read more about that in the About Me section), I’m also a Climate Ambassador with An Taisce and a big advocate for the UN Sustainable Development Goals—especially SDG 12: Responsible Consumption and Production. It really inspires a lot of what I do here at Bloom Handmade Designs.
